April G. Diehl


April Diehl has more than 15 years of experience in strategy consulting, commercial banking, finance and credit risk management.  She has built a career on focused execution, clearly-communicated analytics, and both detailed and strategic problem solving.

At Fifth Star Consulting LLC, April has focused on analytical problem solving and management dashboard reporting. She has developed a number of models, management dashboards and flash reports, along with a roadmap for clients to produce them. April enjoys crisply communicating complicated issues and potential solutions. FSC's clients executive management has benefited from her presentations on complicated regulatory requirements, manufacturing processes and cost accounting methodologies.

Prior to joining Fifth Star, April spent nine years at JPMorgan Chase and Bank One where she held several positions.  She began as Bank One’s CFO of Capital Markets where she instituted a major overhaul of management reporting, improving executive visibility into profitability and risk.  After the merger with JPMorgan, she moved on to a role in credit risk in Chase’s Commercial Bank, where she developed credit policy and underwriting standards for the bank’s Asset Based Lending division.

April was the Credit Lead for the integration of the portion of Washington Mutual that came to Chase Commercial Bank, including review of contracts, vendors, and leases with respect to those being retained by the FDIC; policy development and training; and the design and roll-out of credit staff welcoming events and communications.  That acquisition added over $40 billion in assets and a few hundred employees to Chase’s Commercial Bank.

Finally, she was the Chief Operating Officer of the Real Estate Owned portfolio, helping to build the business’ infrastructure including reporting, systems, regulatory compliance, processes and policies, and property tax management.

Prior to JPMorgan Chase, April spent five years with McKinsey & Co. in the Houston and Boston offices.  There, she worked on a number of strategic projects in the financial services, telecom, consumer products, state government, and energy industries.  She developed particular skill sets in modeling, key metrics identification and tracking, and post-merger integration. April also spent the summer between her MBA years in the M&A department of Goldman Sachs in New York.

April lives in Glenview, IL, with her husband and four young children.  She is a member of the Citizen's Finance Advisory Committee to the District 34 School Board. She previously served a four-year term on the Board of the Northfield Community Nursery School where she was also the Treasurer. In addition, she served on the Board of the Harvard Business School Club of Chicago and on the Board and Executive Committee of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity.

April has a BBA in Accounting from Texas A&M University, where she also studied Political Science.  She passed the CPA exam in Texas and received an MBA from Harvard Business School.
